Victorious Defeat

Hushed squeals under the loud battle cries, The sounds of cannons have Gods petrified, A father's sorrow, A mother's cries, Makes the feeling of victory so hollow and lie ------ As the buildings fall, the city's soul dies, The populace find nothing dear than their lives, Fountains that gave sweet water to life, Only splutter out blood, and a smell very rife. ------ As the rifles fall, the war nears an end, The city lies in ruins, that stood so grand, Human blood and bodies lie on the line, When the power-brokers of country sip on wine. ------ Thank you Mitul, for contributing this wonderful creation of yours to my blog. I don't have to write anything about what you have written..no words are good enough. Great! - For Asthir Amdavadi Mitul Shah !

Last 2 weeks

I was out. Not exactly out of the town... but I was "out of" many things. I was out of my mind, out of money, out of friends (yeass..kind of), out of balance in mobile, out of free sms scheme recharge vouchers (thanks to BSNL), out of my company (willingly), out of words, out of time to write blogs, out of care to contact Best Friend (BF), out of control, out of patience... you name it, it was there. Some good things also happened, some smiles I earned, but in a very weird way. I succeeded to transform myself into an official student from an alumni. Glad to be a part of CEPT again. But now it is altogether a different world - which used to be a calm n happening place. Now, its suffocatingly over-crowded, flooded and noisy. Its murdering the image - the professionalism adopted by some faculties. Some day I will write a short note about that as well. I am collecting information; campus is under my observation. Conclusions will be posted soon, which will be solely min...

Will YOU help?

I can see myself; With Friends, All of us, Sitting somewhere ; Smiling & laughing, Fighting & biting, Teaching and learning, Playing and cheating, Winning & losing, Crying & flying, Going strong together.. But Time changed So do we; Dont have anything for friends- No time, No concern, No feeling, No attachements.. We move on, scattered. We choose paths - Life with Goals Boring Routine, Corner seat in the office , Senseless work for: Blind race for money, Endless greed & need, Want to be at the Top, Above the all, Thus lonely. Never look back. We don't care - What we Left behind, We just move on. No 'life' in such 'life' But, In life, There's always an option. We always have. I Do have, I Do care, I Do want, To hold things together, Will YOU help, my friend? - Asthir Amdavadi Kush

Never Abandoned

More than a week has gone by. Could not write a thing. Had more important things to attend to. I haven't stopped writing. Just a pause this was. Never wanted to left this space abandoned. Never will I. I was advised to write short here, as people do get scared by looking at the length of the blog. Its not the length that matters, its the strength. Anyways, I will try to write short. Wait and watch. Keep guessing what may be next here. - Asthir Amdavadi Kush

Dead End

I wished to see you going away, But cold breeze took you far from sight, Everything seemed dark and gray, Though the moon in the sky shining bright, Never knew it will end up this way, I wished if I could hear you say, Now Darkness vanished & sky is clear But why cant I believe, you're not here - Asthir Amdavadi Kush

If "You" were "I"

If you were "Asthir amdavadi"...then these are the things that you would have had in your life. You are an average looking, slightly overweight, short, shy & gullible boy with good sense of humour. You hate doctors - not by profession, but as a person. You are very selective. You like talking ..without reason/subject/need..but not to all. You wish you can talk to 2-3 people for hours, rather than for minutes with 20 people. You have 200 people in your orkut profile, but not more than 20 scraps in 3 months. You stay online for almost 12 hours, but have no intention to talk with anyone. You go to office late by one hour almost everyday, but you still manage to complete given work within a deadline. You don't care if people ignore you, but You don't like your any friend who ignores/avoids you, as you have never did the same with him/her. You always have time for everyone whom you care, even if they don't have time for you. You got frustrated when someone doesn...

The Celeb thing...

Now today I am not in any mood to work…though its 8.10am and I am in the office since 7.30am and not doing anything, I thought to write something stupid but interesting…. I was reading the newspaper this morning while I was on my way to office in the great NYC Subway. Flipping the pages and reading the headlines…. Then came the sports section. “Tennis takes center stage”. Thought it would be something regarding Wimbledon but it wasn’t. The article said – “Now Serving”, and it goes like this… Things you’d pay top dollar to see in Las Vegas: A girl throwing a drink in Anna Kournikova’s face. An unidentified woman reportedly tossed a cocktail at Kournikova at a Las Vegas club last weekend. Kournikova started screaming at the woman and shoved her before leaving with scratches on her neck. This story – it really is ashame that there is no video – captures three things men enjoy greatly: Sin City, Anna Kournikova and cat fights.

Funding in the US: Part1

I am getting bored at the moment because there is just so much to do around me. Ahh! reasons. This post is merely to leave the past behind and to start dissecting the present. And this third line, which is the the last line of this paragraph is the punchline: Funding in the US is not something you should aim for. My personal view is that there are two paths in doing Graduate study in the US. Graduate study is limited to Engineering, Sciences and Arts. The first path is taking funding opportunities as an international graduate student. This includes Full-time Research Assistantship (codename: S), Wage Student (codename: L) and Part-Time Research Assistantship (codename: I). The second path is to study what you like and to be a sincerely educated fellow (codename: G) or be a part-time working student (codename: H). And here goes my disclaimer: Not that you will earn a lot of money if you sue me, but this is personal opinion and covered under the GNU General Public License. To begin with ...

How to help the poor

A Few months back, My friends and I went out for some pizza party at Domino’s, C.G. road – kind of reunion. After done with all eating and chatting, we were sitting in a small group, near a famous sweet mart next to it. Then a small kid, almost of 8, came and asked for some money, One rupee– beggar he was, obviously we figured out by his dirty and odd clothes. Before we respond, the waiter from the shop came and tried to beat him saying “ Salo roj aavi jay che..bhaag ahi thi”.one of my friend* stopped him. He asked that boy,” You want one rupee?? I will give you 10 Rupees. But not for free. Take a broom and clean up this small area in front of shop entrance.” And we all supported our friend’s thought. Other people sitting around us also watching the on-going act. The boy was ready to clean up the small area. We asked the waiter to bring the broom and give it to that boy. That boy really started cleaning up with the broom handed to him by waiter. In less then a minute, we stopped that b...

Strategic Help during Exams

Its been a long time since I wrote (on my blog) and this is the first time on this one. I was wondering what to write, had different kind of thoughts in my mind; about food, cooking, eating, life in US, NYC lifestyle, etc. Then last night we all (my roommates) were taking about our college things, what we did and all that stuff. Then came a point about copying in exams. So I put a reminder in my phone that says, “write something about last nights discussion”. Ok so lets get started…. We all joined SBST on July 1st, 2003, almost six years. Went through all the required procedure like interaction, talent, etc. and then came the first internal test. People still didn’t knew each other so were seating randomly without any strategy to copy (so forth will be called help). SL-1 exam, question was “difference between some two kind of scales (I don’t remember exactly)”. Priyanka was seating behind me and said, “Hardik, Hardik….ye le…” came the small chit that had the differences (which I alread...

If everyone cared..

If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died When nobody died... We'd see the day When nobody died - Nickelback Thought of just posting it..dznt require any explaination. Think. - Asthir Amdavadi Kush

Having a BSNL mobile..

BSNL - Bharat Sanchar Nigum Limited Today only, one of my friend shifted to BSNL from idea. (an Idea can change ur mobile number). I overjoyed, though I am not a brand ambassador of BSNL (and don't want to be one, as I think I will feel uncomfortable with Deepika - in BSNL advertisements, due to height difference.) I found very few people - especially students - with BSNL mobile number around me. So I feel good if someone is having that! Before 3 years, I had chosen BSNL as my service provider for my Mobile. It has been more than 1000 days of non-stop (just to say) service, offered by BSNL..and I would say that I have no complaints (but my buddies do have!!). Mine is a prepaid mobile, and during college time, I used to have my account balance in 4 figures (surprised??)! 'They' were offering double talk time to the amount of recharge..like 1000 Rs talk time from 500 Rs recharge..! So I was like, "Money? No problem, mobile full of that now !". and sometimes, the bal...

Super Heroes

Image
A few days back, I got a mail from Sony pictures' Spider-man Fan network (i am a member of that) about "Spider-man moves to Broadway theater". It's a Super Hero as we all know very well. The Comic-makers have dumped a hell lot of Superheroes onto us (mostly they are seen in USA). As we all are aware of the fact that there are no super heroes (they claim & sell their stuff like hot cakes), we still love them. Why? well, there cant be one reason for that..but out of those, one reason may be - "they can do what we cant.." Super power . There may be (are) millions of fans of such movies - from X-men to Fantastic 4 to Spiderman 3, from Hulk to Harry Potter to Transformers . All movies were for fun..and mostly became less popular because of their previously published book or comic, but more by Amazing Visual effects. As far as I know, till date no 'Superhero' movie contained a Real message, and was for pure entertainment only. But one movie has chang...

Thoughts about "Random Thoughts.." - After 1 month

Well, I could never imagine myself writing a blog like this..or, in other words, I have never thought of that that people would read (and eventually like) what I write. Its not that that I never wanted to write, but blogging is altogether a different thing. It is more than a month now..since 1st Blog posted here. So,"Random Thoughts..." is just a kid -toddler . He was not born with a silver spoon (or pen?) in his mouth. But it is gaining strength and Growing slowly, steadily. It does have a long way to go before being a matured "human" (not exactly human though, as its our perception that we humans are called mature after 18 years..!!). He has good Father, skilled & blissed mentors and wise readers-followers..So, I am quite hopeful that this "kid" will become stronger and smarter day by day. Till now, I have touched several topics..Almost 11 Blogs in 1 month. That clearly shows that I am kind of eager to write about something-anything-everything. (a...

Night outs..

Scene 1 - A bunglow somewhere in manekbaug area. Its 11 pm. In 2 reasonably large rooms at upper floor, scattered bags & notes seen everywhere. Sofa and beds are occupied. 5-6 library books stacked in the corners. A laptop is lying on desk with shortcut to “counter-strike” icon on its desktop. Lots of food of different kind and nature is available. TV is on, but sound is muted. Scene 2 - Somewhere in Prahladnagar A few hours past to Midnight. One bedroom at ground floor. One PC and 2 laptops are working. Mere sound of striking keys, mostly Ctrl+c & ctrl+v, is breaking deafening silence. Smell of Seriousness and sincerity in the air. Scene 3 – Naranpura Few minutes past 10 pm. A spacious house on 5th Floor. A room well customized for comfortable sitting of ‘players’. Colourful bowls loaded with money coins. A few Fresh packs of cards on the deck. A ‘locked’ showcase of Liquor bottles with keys out of reach. My friends and I are very familiar to all above-said “Night scenes” (no ...

Summer of '09

Season of IPL is over. But not this season - "Summer"..The most difficult time of the year this is - March to May..Sometimes I wonder If I can skip these 3 months..but I simply can't do that. For me, The only attraction of summers is my Birthday...!! Otherwise, no one likes summer -except juice parlour owners : they like this season so much - like doctors love monsoon!!! Money making time. Year by year, highest temperature keeps on breaking the records of all previous ones. I only talk about amdavad now, as most of the times I observe here only. Often Newspapers say in their forecast "Today's maximum temperature will be 1 degree Celsius less, compare to yesterday's max temperature - 44.6 C..!!" What the hell..! Can we feel that difference when we are roaming out on streets in the afternoon?? For us, Its all the same..burning Heat raining from the sky . But just psychologically we get an impression that "Haash, aaje kaik ochi hase!". We observe...

When you Say "I Love India" - #1

Facebook is nowadays flooded with crap quizzes, so as my home page on facebook- with name of idiots who have taken them. Recently I saw quiz on my Facebook Homepage,."How much you love India?” and the result displayed was “Congratulations..!! you are 100% Indian. You love you country very much...“and the one, who took that, wrote comment below “I knew I am 100% Indian..!” I thought, How ridiculous. How can you say that?? I mean, how can any of us say, that I am 100% Indian? Who sets the criteria? Agree that We are Indian, by birth. But %age of “Indianism”?? May be I am over reacting on petty issue..But that’s what it is. People don’t react..and if anyone reacts, they say he is over reacting. There is very common saying here in India “Sau me se Assi Beiman, phir bhi mera Bharat Mahan”. If you laugh by reading this even today, then you don’t care about our country. We laugh on the situation which ironically shows our country is falling. Don’t get away with the facts that we are emer...

Maggi Management - 2

Lets start point to point.. Maggi: The Easiest thing to cook..! Well, its just a question of having two minutes of time. If you find any person around you, especially during your college life, who says he doesn’t know how to make Maggi, then he would be an a**..!! Time management: Flexibility of Time It is said that it’s just a question of having 2 minutes of time to prepare it. But in reality, you can stretch the project duration according to available manpower (skilled & unskilled), kitchen conditions, resources & time available, & most important – Patience of users at point consumption!! Preparing Maggi is unique project. No thumb rules work here. You can make Maggi for 10 people in 5 minutes as well as for 2 people in 30 minutes. Everything is possible. You can add complexity to the project by increasing the ingredients. Micro Planning & Procurement of the same ingredients in timely fashion (before shops get closed..!!) so that the project shall be completed in stip...

Mother's Day

A small story to start with....Its about a mother and her son...a small boy. Mother wanted to go out to buy something. Boy wanted to go out playing. Mom asked him to first clean his room, clean the dining table and put his dirty cloths in washing machine before going for play. She gave instructions and went out. About an hour later, she returned and found that all the instructions her son has followed. He was not at home. When she came into kitchen, she found a small letter written by her son. It was written " Dear mom...here are the charges. Room cleaning - Rs. 10, Dining table cleaning - Rs 5, cloths putting in washing machine -Rs 5. Total Rs. 20 - With love, Your son". She thought for sometime..and found a solution. About an hour later, her son came to home and went to his room upstairs. There was a note on his bed. He read it.."Dear son..here are my daily charges. getting you ready for school - Rs. Zero, your lunchbox & breakfast - Rs. Zero, cooking Lunch & D...

Indian Railway Journey Experiences in 2nd Class – Part 1

Background Last month, I happened to go for a few site visits at Ankleshwar for our company’s ongoing project (India’s First Bio-refinery) to take care of some quality control issues (just to say so). It was like two days in a week, Thursday & Friday, for 5 weeks. For Ankleshwar, I was needed to Ashram Express from platform 4 at no later than 7.00 am (departure time). It is a good 3 hours journey. Then from Ankleshwar station to 15 minutes of adventurous ride on extremely busy and under construction highway, in “chhakada” to reach the site. As I was travelling alone, and my Latest N16 Nokia handset was (or is) not having in-built music/FM feature, I had to pass time by observing people, their activities and habits closely. Though my company was kind enough(!) to reserve my tickets (in 2nd Class) online every-time so that I could go to site, but it was “I”..who was to go ..!! During my 5 visits to Ankleshwar, I had spent total 30 hours in Indian Railway coaches in 10 journeys (of co...

Maggi Management - 1 (series of 2)

Hi Ppl.. A bit of Back Ground ... Recent trends in knowledge industry are selecting bollywood, Hollywood and even Bhojpuri movies for management study. Lagaan, Chak-de etc are already in IIMs for study of team work and management. But the fact is, management is everywhere around us. You have to have an eye to look at it. For example, Exams in SBST are excellent management & team work model, involving preliminary survey of classroom for most feasible set up with Locational advantages, highly precise & timely communication, efficient document flow, and individual as well as team performance..!! The Brand “Maggi” has recently completed its 20 years. In India, Maggi sales has grown to an estimated Rs 160-170 crore brand contributing as much as 8-9% to Nestle India’s top line. In words of Chairman & managing Director of Nestle India, Carlo Donati, “India has emerged as the largest consumer of Maggi noodles across all Nestle operations in the world”.(May 21, 2003, ET). It has bec...
