How to help the poor

A Few months back, My friends and I went out for some pizza party at Domino’s, C.G. road – kind of reunion. After done with all eating and chatting, we were sitting in a small group, near a famous sweet mart next to it. Then a small kid, almost of 8, came and asked for some money, One rupee– beggar he was, obviously we figured out by his dirty and odd clothes. Before we respond, the waiter from the shop came and tried to beat him saying “ Salo roj aavi jay che..bhaag ahi thi”.one of my friend* stopped him. He asked that boy,” You want one rupee?? I will give you 10 Rupees. But not for free. Take a broom and clean up this small area in front of shop entrance.” And we all supported our friend’s thought. Other people sitting around us also watching the on-going act. The boy was ready to clean up the small area. We asked the waiter to bring the broom and give it to that boy. That boy really started cleaning up with the broom handed to him by waiter. In less then a minute, we stopped that boy..and gave him 10 rupees. He was happy. Then my friend advised him “Do not beg ever..always do something and earn. This 10 rupees you will never get from begging, but by working. And you will feel that you earn something, rather than getting everything for free every time”. Everyone around us were looking at us in astonishment. Don’t know how they felt, but obviously they would have had a positive impression onto them. Fortunately, there was no one around to advice us that the “beggars are millionaires” or whatever. (There were no Girls with or around us that time- so don't think that we did that to impress someone.) I am proud that we are having such people here..in India,in amdavad, everywhere around us - with us. Just open your eyes and see.
