Funding in the US: Part1

I am getting bored at the moment because there is just so much to do around me. Ahh! reasons. This post is merely to leave the past behind and to start dissecting the present. And this third line, which is the the last line of this paragraph is the punchline: Funding in the US is not something you should aim for.

My personal view is that there are two paths in doing Graduate study in the US. Graduate study is limited to Engineering, Sciences and Arts. The first path is taking funding opportunities as an international graduate student. This includes Full-time Research Assistantship (codename: S), Wage Student (codename: L) and Part-Time Research Assistantship (codename: I). The second path is to study what you like and to be a sincerely educated fellow (codename: G) or be a part-time working student (codename: H). And here goes my disclaimer: Not that you will earn a lot of money if you sue me, but this is personal opinion and covered under the GNU General Public License.

To begin with definitions, S marked individuals get there 100% fees waived off, but do pay a small utilization fee. They are hired by University Departments and are basically full-time state employees and are paid a state-grade wage. L marked individuals can be paid depending on the employer, though a minimum state wage cannot be compromised. Generally companies and corporate establishments hire Ls. Is are similar to Ss, but only get a certain percent of fees waived off (35,50,75 etc) and have to work at their own free time and hired by young un-tenured professors. They still have to fend for the remaining expenses.

Gs are like Americans, they dont need to work and are funded by their parents, though Americans are necessarily funded by scholarships or no-work-attached-money-making-machines. On the other hand, Hs work for their expenses and basically compete with other student workers who neither have the smartness to be a G, nor the abilities to be Ss.

The same person could be an S and a I, and other such mixes also exist. IF you have read through the above paragraphs, then it is time to think what do you want ? S,G,L or I. The second part will show my personal analysis. Feel free to do your own analysis.
