Funding in the US: Part1

I am getting bored at the moment because there is just so much to do around me. Ahh! reasons. This post is merely to leave the past behind and to start dissecting the present. And this third line, which is the the last line of this paragraph is the punchline: Funding in the US is not something you should aim for. My personal view is that there are two paths in doing Graduate study in the US. Graduate study is limited to Engineering, Sciences and Arts. The first path is taking funding opportunities as an international graduate student. This includes Full-time Research Assistantship (codename: S), Wage Student (codename: L) and Part-Time Research Assistantship (codename: I). The second path is to study what you like and to be a sincerely educated fellow (codename: G) or be a part-time working student (codename: H). And here goes my disclaimer: Not that you will earn a lot of money if you sue me, but this is personal opinion and covered under the GNU General Public License. To begin with ...

How to help the poor

A Few months back, My friends and I went out for some pizza party at Domino’s, C.G. road – kind of reunion. After done with all eating and chatting, we were sitting in a small group, near a famous sweet mart next to it. Then a small kid, almost of 8, came and asked for some money, One rupee– beggar he was, obviously we figured out by his dirty and odd clothes. Before we respond, the waiter from the shop came and tried to beat him saying “ Salo roj aavi jay che..bhaag ahi thi”.one of my friend* stopped him. He asked that boy,” You want one rupee?? I will give you 10 Rupees. But not for free. Take a broom and clean up this small area in front of shop entrance.” And we all supported our friend’s thought. Other people sitting around us also watching the on-going act. The boy was ready to clean up the small area. We asked the waiter to bring the broom and give it to that boy. That boy really started cleaning up with the broom handed to him by waiter. In less then a minute, we stopped that b...

Strategic Help during Exams

Its been a long time since I wrote (on my blog) and this is the first time on this one. I was wondering what to write, had different kind of thoughts in my mind; about food, cooking, eating, life in US, NYC lifestyle, etc. Then last night we all (my roommates) were taking about our college things, what we did and all that stuff. Then came a point about copying in exams. So I put a reminder in my phone that says, “write something about last nights discussion”. Ok so lets get started…. We all joined SBST on July 1st, 2003, almost six years. Went through all the required procedure like interaction, talent, etc. and then came the first internal test. People still didn’t knew each other so were seating randomly without any strategy to copy (so forth will be called help). SL-1 exam, question was “difference between some two kind of scales (I don’t remember exactly)”. Priyanka was seating behind me and said, “Hardik, Hardik….ye le…” came the small chit that had the differences (which I alread...

If everyone cared..

If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died When nobody died... We'd see the day When nobody died - Nickelback Thought of just posting it..dznt require any explaination. Think. - Asthir Amdavadi Kush

Having a BSNL mobile..

BSNL - Bharat Sanchar Nigum Limited Today only, one of my friend shifted to BSNL from idea. (an Idea can change ur mobile number). I overjoyed, though I am not a brand ambassador of BSNL (and don't want to be one, as I think I will feel uncomfortable with Deepika - in BSNL advertisements, due to height difference.) I found very few people - especially students - with BSNL mobile number around me. So I feel good if someone is having that! Before 3 years, I had chosen BSNL as my service provider for my Mobile. It has been more than 1000 days of non-stop (just to say) service, offered by BSNL..and I would say that I have no complaints (but my buddies do have!!). Mine is a prepaid mobile, and during college time, I used to have my account balance in 4 figures (surprised??)! 'They' were offering double talk time to the amount of recharge..like 1000 Rs talk time from 500 Rs recharge..! So I was like, "Money? No problem, mobile full of that now !". and sometimes, the bal...

Super Heroes

Image
A few days back, I got a mail from Sony pictures' Spider-man Fan network (i am a member of that) about "Spider-man moves to Broadway theater". It's a Super Hero as we all know very well. The Comic-makers have dumped a hell lot of Superheroes onto us (mostly they are seen in USA). As we all are aware of the fact that there are no super heroes (they claim & sell their stuff like hot cakes), we still love them. Why? well, there cant be one reason for that..but out of those, one reason may be - "they can do what we cant.." Super power . There may be (are) millions of fans of such movies - from X-men to Fantastic 4 to Spiderman 3, from Hulk to Harry Potter to Transformers . All movies were for fun..and mostly became less popular because of their previously published book or comic, but more by Amazing Visual effects. As far as I know, till date no 'Superhero' movie contained a Real message, and was for pure entertainment only. But one movie has chang...

Thoughts about "Random Thoughts.." - After 1 month

Well, I could never imagine myself writing a blog like this..or, in other words, I have never thought of that that people would read (and eventually like) what I write. Its not that that I never wanted to write, but blogging is altogether a different thing. It is more than a month now..since 1st Blog posted here. So,"Random Thoughts..." is just a kid -toddler . He was not born with a silver spoon (or pen?) in his mouth. But it is gaining strength and Growing slowly, steadily. It does have a long way to go before being a matured "human" (not exactly human though, as its our perception that we humans are called mature after 18 years..!!). He has good Father, skilled & blissed mentors and wise readers-followers..So, I am quite hopeful that this "kid" will become stronger and smarter day by day. Till now, I have touched several topics..Almost 11 Blogs in 1 month. That clearly shows that I am kind of eager to write about something-anything-everything. (a...

And friends...

Marks and copies, prints in Siddhi- By work and play, I companied their value' Though fights and fouls, we squared around. Sleeps and Noons, hostel and canteen- With joy and feelings, I gained beyond, Through songs and games, we crossed some line. Reports and deadlines, excel and numbers- From zero to five, I adore them free, Beyond trust and ship, we tread same paths. Reels and Zooms, bikes and groups- In and out, I lived throughout, For flowers we bloomed, petals as each

Night outs..

Scene 1 - A bunglow somewhere in manekbaug area. Its 11 pm. In 2 reasonably large rooms at upper floor, scattered bags & notes seen everywhere. Sofa and beds are occupied. 5-6 library books stacked in the corners. A laptop is lying on desk with shortcut to “counter-strike” icon on its desktop. Lots of food of different kind and nature is available. TV is on, but sound is muted. Scene 2 - Somewhere in Prahladnagar A few hours past to Midnight. One bedroom at ground floor. One PC and 2 laptops are working. Mere sound of striking keys, mostly Ctrl+c & ctrl+v, is breaking deafening silence. Smell of Seriousness and sincerity in the air. Scene 3 – Naranpura Few minutes past 10 pm. A spacious house on 5th Floor. A room well customized for comfortable sitting of ‘players’. Colourful bowls loaded with money coins. A few Fresh packs of cards on the deck. A ‘locked’ showcase of Liquor bottles with keys out of reach. My friends and I are very familiar to all above-said “Night scenes” (no ...
