Summer of '09

Season of IPL is over. But not this season - "Summer"..The most difficult time of the year this is - March to May..Sometimes I wonder If I can skip these 3 months..but I simply can't do that. For me, The only attraction of summers is my Birthday...!! Otherwise, no one likes summer -except juice parlour owners : they like this season so much - like doctors love monsoon!!! Money making time. Year by year, highest temperature keeps on breaking the records of all previous ones. I only talk about amdavad now, as most of the times I observe here only. Often Newspapers say in their forecast "Today's maximum temperature will be 1 degree Celsius less, compare to yesterday's max temperature - 44.6 C..!!" What the hell..! Can we feel that difference when we are roaming out on streets in the afternoon?? For us, Its all the same..burning Heat raining from the sky . But just psychologically we get an impression that "Haash, aaje kaik ochi hase!". We observe...

When you Say "I Love India" - #1

Facebook is nowadays flooded with crap quizzes, so as my home page on facebook- with name of idiots who have taken them. Recently I saw quiz on my Facebook Homepage,."How much you love India?” and the result displayed was “Congratulations..!! you are 100% Indian. You love you country very much...“and the one, who took that, wrote comment below “I knew I am 100% Indian..!” I thought, How ridiculous. How can you say that?? I mean, how can any of us say, that I am 100% Indian? Who sets the criteria? Agree that We are Indian, by birth. But %age of “Indianism”?? May be I am over reacting on petty issue..But that’s what it is. People don’t react..and if anyone reacts, they say he is over reacting. There is very common saying here in India “Sau me se Assi Beiman, phir bhi mera Bharat Mahan”. If you laugh by reading this even today, then you don’t care about our country. We laugh on the situation which ironically shows our country is falling. Don’t get away with the facts that we are emer...

Maggi Management - 2

Lets start point to point.. Maggi: The Easiest thing to cook..! Well, its just a question of having two minutes of time. If you find any person around you, especially during your college life, who says he doesn’t know how to make Maggi, then he would be an a**..!! Time management: Flexibility of Time It is said that it’s just a question of having 2 minutes of time to prepare it. But in reality, you can stretch the project duration according to available manpower (skilled & unskilled), kitchen conditions, resources & time available, & most important – Patience of users at point consumption!! Preparing Maggi is unique project. No thumb rules work here. You can make Maggi for 10 people in 5 minutes as well as for 2 people in 30 minutes. Everything is possible. You can add complexity to the project by increasing the ingredients. Micro Planning & Procurement of the same ingredients in timely fashion (before shops get closed..!!) so that the project shall be completed in stip...

Mother's Day

A small story to start with....Its about a mother and her son...a small boy. Mother wanted to go out to buy something. Boy wanted to go out playing. Mom asked him to first clean his room, clean the dining table and put his dirty cloths in washing machine before going for play. She gave instructions and went out. About an hour later, she returned and found that all the instructions her son has followed. He was not at home. When she came into kitchen, she found a small letter written by her son. It was written " Dear mom...here are the charges. Room cleaning - Rs. 10, Dining table cleaning - Rs 5, cloths putting in washing machine -Rs 5. Total Rs. 20 - With love, Your son". She thought for sometime..and found a solution. About an hour later, her son came to home and went to his room upstairs. There was a note on his bed. He read it.."Dear son..here are my daily charges. getting you ready for school - Rs. Zero, your lunchbox & breakfast - Rs. Zero, cooking Lunch & D...

Indian Railway Journey Experiences in 2nd Class – Part 1

Background Last month, I happened to go for a few site visits at Ankleshwar for our company’s ongoing project (India’s First Bio-refinery) to take care of some quality control issues (just to say so). It was like two days in a week, Thursday & Friday, for 5 weeks. For Ankleshwar, I was needed to Ashram Express from platform 4 at no later than 7.00 am (departure time). It is a good 3 hours journey. Then from Ankleshwar station to 15 minutes of adventurous ride on extremely busy and under construction highway, in “chhakada” to reach the site. As I was travelling alone, and my Latest N16 Nokia handset was (or is) not having in-built music/FM feature, I had to pass time by observing people, their activities and habits closely. Though my company was kind enough(!) to reserve my tickets (in 2nd Class) online every-time so that I could go to site, but it was “I”..who was to go ..!! During my 5 visits to Ankleshwar, I had spent total 30 hours in Indian Railway coaches in 10 journeys (of co...

Hi Ppl.. A bit of Back Ground ... Recent trends in knowledge industry are selecting bollywood, Hollywood and even Bhojpuri movies for management study. Lagaan, Chak-de etc are already in IIMs for study of team work and management. But the fact is, management is everywhere around us. You have to have an eye to look at it. The Brand “Maggi” has recently completed its 20 years. In India, Maggi sales has grown to an estimated Rs 160-170 crore brand contributing as much as 8-9% to Nestle India’s top line. In words of Chairman & managing Director of Nestle India, Carlo Donati, “India has emerged as the largest consumer of Maggi noodles across all Nestle operations in the world”.(May 21, 2003, ET).
